What is Life Coaching and Who Needs it?

If there was a way that you could become better organized, have written goals, better communication skills, earn more money, and have more balance in your life would you be interested?
If you have answered yes, then welcome to the world of Life Coaching. Life coaches teach and motivate people to be the best that they can be. A life coach is a neutral third party that you can bounce ideas off of, create goals with, and in general be held accountable to do the things you say that you were going to do. A coaching plan should be a custom-made plan established specifically with the individual client in mind. In my opinion, the coach should offer a free or discounted consultation so the client can get to know the coach. Coaching can be done face to face, or as most clients seem to prefer, by telephone. Lastly, I think it's important for you as a client to have some kind of guarantee on the results. Some coaches will not offer a money back guarantee, but the best ones will.
Who gets coached?
People who want to excel in their lives get coached. Think of your life as the spokes on a wheel. Each spoke represents an area of your life. You have a financial spoke, a relationship spoke, a spiritual spoke, a goals spoke, an organization spoke, a health spoke, and a communications spoke. If any spoke becomes weakened or broken the entire wheel suffers. People get coached to strengthen their weaker areas; which then helps all areas of their life. Let's use this scenario as an example. Did you ever feeling frustrated because you were not earning enough money? Did that frustration ever lead to a time where you had a fight with a loved one? That is one spoke affecting another. What would happen if you were earning more money, or if you had better communication skills? That fight probably would have been averted.
What should I look for in a coach?
Choosing a coach is as personal as choosing a doctor. The best way is to try and get recommendations from people that you know and trust. Next step is to interview the coach. Make sure that they have actually done the things that you are looking for help with. Would you want to get marital advice from someone who has been divorced seven times? The coach should have experience and good communication skills. He or she should make you feel welcomed and empowered. A coach should not be your friend. They should be able to be tough with you (tough love) and hold you accountable to do the things you say that you are going to do. A coach should never belittle you or make you feel guilty or ashamed.
How do I know if I am ready to be coached?
You are ready to be coached if you are tired of your present circumstances and want to improve your life and your business. You are ready to be coached if you are willing to invest time and money in yourself and if you are ready to leave your comfort zone.
How long will it take to achieve results?
That question is hard to answer because it is different for everyone. Coaching is very much like exercise, except that it is exercise for your mind. How long will it take you to build up your biceps? Everyone is different, but much depends on how quickly you want to see results. Typically people will start to notice changes in their thought processes and behavior, on average, in about six weeks.
